Summary: When we read the daily news, we stay informed, expand our vocabulary, and stay in direct contact with our society and culture.

Author's statement:
Reading the daily news is more than just a favorite
morning ritual, it serves to bring the world to us in
interesting written form. Reading it, as opposed to hearing
or watching it, allows for more in depth coverage, and we are
able to focus in on specific items that we are interested in.
When we read, we enjoy a deeper level of understanding, it
reaches us more viscerally and we are more in tune with it.
The written word is able to be more colorfully phrased than
is spoken reportage, which must concern itself with concise
soundbytes that usually just scratch the surface. Our
vocabulary and intellect benefit.
Over time, reading the daily news can give us knowledge
of complex international political and economic concepts as
well as inform us of peoples in need and specific
local individuals who may need our help. We are in direct
contact with the world at large and the local scene, making
us better people.
