Summary: Criminals are human beings and are capable of change.

Author's statement:
Patrick Naughton is a jerk, and may very well be a pedophile, but
he is also a human being who's life has been ruined. Likewise,
many criminals are capable of change if given the opportunity.

You can punish someone without rubbing salt in the wound.
Discounting the possibility of personal growth strips a
person's humanity.
