Summary: Tailgating may be an attempt to send a message to another driver to move over or speed up, but it endangers others and is a sign of impatience.

Author's statement:
In our fast paced culture, we often need to get to where
we are going as fast as possible. Other drivers may be
moving too slowly for us and if we aren't able to pass them,
then all we can do is "ride their tail" or tailgate.
Tailgating is a favorite past-time for many because
it can be fun; it requires split second reaction time and it
feels almost like real racing. The drawback is that it is
extremely dangerous to us and those around us. If the car
in front of us needs to stop abruptly, it is an accident
waiting to happen. Tailgating makes other drivers very
nervous, they are forced to pay too much attention to what is
happening behind them, when what is before them should be
the prime concern.
If a person chronically tailgates, they may have
difficulty being patient, or their lives are very
disorganized and they are always late; thus the need to
tailgate and speed wherever they are going. One needs to slow
down in a fast paced world, take time to smell the roses,
otherwise - life goes by too quickly while we are perpetually
late.
Save lives while enjoying life more fully, don't
tailgate.
