Summary: Our lives can be very complicated socially and
professionally, not being truthful unnecessarily complicates
it more and promotes unhappiness.
Author's statement:
Being honest allows one to be more real with oneself
and others. When one is honest, one can be more open to enjoy
contact with others, one may experience more meaningful
relationships and a more meaningful life.
Lying alienates one from authentic experience, denying
one the opportunity to reap the benefits of honesty, such as:
contentment, lack of guilt, positive outlook, and good
karma. If dishonesty becomes excessive, one must maintain
various distortions over time, severing one's attachment to
the validity of the present moment. Being honest is good for
the soul.
