Well goodfriends and neighbors, I guess we probably should have
assumed that the risks were greater than we had allowed ourselves
to believe. As it turns out, dioxin - a family of chemicals
most prevalently released into the environment during
industrial incineration - is much more harmful than we thought.
The EPA released a report on Monday revealing that the risks of
cancer, birth and other health defects are higher than previously
estimated.
While it is true that our environmental crusade of the last
25 to 30 years has reduced dioxin levels and air pollution in
general, it is disheartening to discover that chemical componds
that we've all been in contact with (by simply breathing) are
worse than we thought they were. Whoops!
