Holy Freeholies! How long has this conflict been going on now? Three
weeks. How long have we been in Bagdad? A week.
The reason we are protecting the oil fields right now is because
without that oil, there is no future for the Iraqi people. And, in case
you didn't notice, but at the end of the first Gulf War, Saddam torched
hundreds of Kuwaiti oil wells as he left. It took months for those
fires to put out. Perhaps, we are just tyring to assure that he
doesn't do that again as some last ditch effort to sabotage.
We will put back together the hospitals and other services for the Iraqi
people, but right now there is still fighting going on all around Bagdad.
Until it is safe, our troops have to be diligent and their safety is
very important to them. There are massive efforts underway to bring
humanitarian supplies all throughout Iraq. Just this morning I saw
a report saying how hundreds for former police officers had repsonded
to a call for help from the US forces to put back together a police force
to control the looting and assure the safety of the community.
We can't do it all at the same time.
