Obviously you are not a parent. No parent wants to hear their own child cry any less than anyone else. It is distressing and embarrassing for us parents, but the true good humans I have met can sympathize because they have been there before. An exceptional human might even offer to hold or rock your crying child so that you could go to the bathroom or have a moment to yourself. I have heard of many more "adults" who haven't learned how to behave themselves on airplanes, and have endangered many lives with out of control behavior.This "guideline" seems misdirected to me.
