Beyond our own comfort levels, it is also important to remember the safety of the child. Many doctors agree that infants under the age of one should never be brought on an aircraft, as the pressure changes could damage their sensitive and still developing organs (brain fluid, lungs, etc.) Children over the age of three rarely cry anyway, so the issue becomes on of discipline and parental responsibility. I travel a lot, and there's nothing worse than watching some kid running up and down the aisles screaming while his parents casually read the inflight magazine. Children in all situations should be closely watched by their parents so that they do not cause injury to themselves or to others. Besides, on a selfish note, I dislike paying $700 to fly somewhere and have some rambuncious child leaning over his seat jabbering in my ear the whole time and spilling chocolate milk on my camera case. Smart parents who have very young children and absolutely need to travel should find a responsible guardian for the time that they are going to be away. The comment made earlier by another member about how children need their mother's milk was just a little ridiculous. There are plenty of suitable formulas on the market today, and if you are a mother who has a newborn child that you are still nursing, you probably shouldn't be jetting off to all corners of the earth anyway. Stay at home until your child can drink from a cup. It's all a matter of common sense and responsibility.
