Using rechargable batteries seems counterproductive: While regular batteries may fill up landfills and the like, rechargables require the use of an additional electric power source. This power source increases the use of electricity, which in turn creates more pollution in the long run. It's like the whole electric car argument. Sure electric cars use less gasoline, or none at all, but their use of electricity as their powerplant requires the burning of fossil fuels at the source. So, while electric cars don't pollute as much directly, the burning of coal required to generate the electricity neccessary to run them produces as much, if not more polltion than a normal, gasoline powered car
