This is probably unrelated but I wonder what effect the oceanic
sonic testing is having on sea life. I remember that there was
much public opposition to the tests, which create loud bursts of
sound to determine how far away they could be detected.
It was thought that this might adversely effect sonar guided
sea life.
On a happy note, I noticed in this weekend's paper that over 20
humpback whales and 2000 dolphins and sea lions had been observed
working together to corral millions of sardines. To the amazement
of whale watchers, the dolphins and sea lions would drive
the sardines in to a tight area then the whales would emerge
from below, driving them to the surface where they could swallow
hundreds at a time.
