The History of Schatzi on Main

In 1991, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver founded Schatzi on Main, at Main Street Plaza, Arnold's and Maria?s beautiful building on Main Street in Santa Monica, one block from the beach. In German "Schatzi" means "sweetheart".

This neighborhood restaurant serves Californian and Austrian specialities, including some dishes you may not find anywhere else in Los Angeles, such as Kaiserschmarrn and the best Wiener Schnitzel in town.




Shortly after opening the restaurant, Arnold began to host Cigar Nights, attended by approximately 250 celebrities, friends of Arnold and cigar Lovers. Men and women, including non-cigar smokers, come for good food, high energy and casual atmosphere on the outdoor patio with cigars, music, magic and celebrity spotting all included.



Recently Arnolds friend from his hometown of Graz, Austria, Charly Temmel came to America and has had huge successes on the Third Street Promenade and around Southern California with his restaurants and ice cream parlors.



He makes his own ice cream at an ice cream factory here in Los Angeles and you won?t believe how delicious it is and all the unique flavors.
Charly recently asked Arnold if he could take over the operations of Schatzi on Main and Arnold knew immediately that Charly would continue and improve upon Arnold?s tradition of great Californian and unique Austrian cuisine.
Arnold knows that while he is off shooting a movie, Charly will be home minding the store and keeping up the high standards that Arnold demands. So in June, Charly took over operations and the response has been terrific.

Arnold was involved in developing the new menu and is still involved in making sure all the traditions he established continue.




Arnold Schwarzenegger dines at Schatzi regularly and brings his friends to enjoy the most popular Cigar Nights in America and other special events.
Now Arnold can relax at Schatzi (instead of working!) with the pride of knowing that he has created an intimate haven for food and cigar lovers alike, and for those who want to experience a little bit of Hollywood right at the beach!
