I voted against the kindness guideline that's polling right
now. I certainly agree with the principle behind it, but I
don't think the choices are fair. No one is "always kind
to everyone [they] encounter." The best any of us can do
is try to be as nice as we can in every context. I think it
would be better to phrase the guideline in terms of effort
or instances of kindness per time. It's more realistic,
and it affirms the kindness we currently engage in instead
of setting a deflating "standard" that no one but a Buddha
is likely to reach.
