Beverly Hills Enforces Leash Laws

The City of Beverly Hills law enforcement staff is currently patrolling the City to detect violations in the leash laws and respond to citizen complaints.

The Beverly Hills Municipal Code has several ordinances that govern dog licensing and the safe walking of a dog:

Any dog over four months in age is required to have a current dog license.
When being walked in any public area, dogs are required to be on a controlled durable leash no longer than six-feet in length.
A person may walk no more than three dogs at the same time.
All dog owners are required to clean up any mess caused by their dog.
Violation citations may be issued by the Police Department, Park Rangers, Code Enforcement Officers, and Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.

Current licensing assures that a dog is properly vaccinated and that the dog can be returned to its owner in the event it becomes lost. Exercising proper control over dogs in public and cleaning up after them creates a safe environment for people and pets. Neglecting these duties creates an unsanitary condition and a public nuisance. Most dog-bite incidents are the result of dogs being walked without proper control.

Anyone wishing to report a violation should contact the Beverly Hills Police Department at (310) 550-4951. For questions concerning City animal control ordinances and dog licensing information, call (310) 285-1119.
