"Holy shit you are stupid. Iraq launched SCUD missils at Kuwait just a couple of days ago. Missils with biological warheads attached to them that he claimed he did not have. He claimed he destroyed them."

Um...I don't think that any of the "missils" that have been fired had biological agents attached to them.

"Also, the same people claiming this war is about oil are the same assholes who are driving the gas guzzling SUVs and bitching about the high gas prices. But, so all of you know, hardly any oil at all comes from Iraq. We get most from South America. Right now we are getting barrels of oil at the same price as we have been for the past 4 or 5 years. (give or take a cent maybe) So this proves that the war is not about oil because the gas is not expensive because Iraq shut off its supply. No, it is expensive because gas stations know that they can jack the prices up anytime something in the Middle East happens because the consumers buy into it."

I agreee with most of this, however, we should not forget that Iraq does have one of the largest and potentially productive oilfields in the world. It is just possible that the oil worker that I saw on the news the other day might have been sent to get it all up and running again. Also, it might be difficult to purchase oil from a country that you are imposing santions on. Perhaps, if you want to buy oil from an oil rich country that has a government that you don't agree with then the most profitable thing to do would be to depose said leader and knock down a few buildings. Then you can seel the newly installed government your expertise in building and enter into trade discussions.
This is not all about oil, but it is all about money. Did I hear someone say Marshall Plan?

"Refresh my memory a little bit. What happened on December 7, 1941? Something called Pearl Harbor. Now I know we went to war with Germany but was it Germany who attacked us. No, it was Japan. If people like you lived in 1941 we would fight Japan and then be done. What is the difference now? "

The difference is that a small place by the name of Europe was completely decimated by in fighting in the first half of the 20th century. The war was was not aginst Germany alone but a coalition of European powers including, Austria, Bulgaria, Czechslovakia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan (not European), Romania. The US was considerably involved in WWII long before 1941 in an "advisory capacity", Pearl Harbor was the straw that broke the camel's back which allowed an already willing FDR to convinve congress that committing troops would be a good idea. There is a world of difference between what is happening now and what happened at the beginning of WWII. Although, I wonder if the outcome might not be similar. The Middle East is an unstable region politically, perhaps Western aggression will be the straw that breaks its back?
