Actually, I think the peace activist would probably just call the police over and have you arrested for assault. Your argument is flawed in exactly the same manner that the recent US invasion of Iraq is flawed. We have laws. Those accused of crimes against humanity in Iraq should be brought to the World Court where evidence can be heard and tried openly for the world to judge. You are right, we do owe our military (and teachers, doctors, nurses, construction workers, police, firefighters, etc.) a huge debt. We should not be decreasing federal funds to these groups in order to give those who don't need it tax breaks and to pay for the bombing and subsequent rebuilding of other countries. There are plenty of hospitals and schools here that need rennovation in addition to many starving, uneducated Americans who live in poverty amongst the richest people in the world. Additionally, we should not squander the lives of our military unnecessarily when more peaceful alternatives to war exist. We can be better than that, after all, we're Americans.
