Yes, we should all be more considerate when we fly. There
are several 'goodhuman' guidelines here:
....
Shower before your flight.
Don't where perfume on the plane
Speak in unoffensive language when travelling
and our favorite ;>)
Don't bring your baby on the airplane
....
Does this mean that you are 'bad' because you
bring your baby on the flight? Of course not. Nor
does it mean that you are 'bad' if you wear
too much perfume on the plane.
But, leaving your baby home and not wearing a lot
of perfume on the plane are definately 'good' things.
They are cases where you are putting
the needs and comfort of strangers ahead of your own
needs. They deserve to be goodhumans guidelines.
This does not mean that there aren't some contradictory
guidelines which might not also be 'good'. jenallen
brought up a few of these at the beginning of this
thread:
Help other passengers with their infants
Hold a baby for someone during a bathroom trip
Play with babies on the airplane
.......
The mistake that most people make with this guideline
(and some others) is that they think that non-compliance
with the guideline is 'bad'. This is definately
not the case.
An clearer example of this can be illustrated
if there were a guideline for Julia 'Butterfly' Hill.
This guideline might read:
> Live in an old-growth redwood tree for 2 years in order
> to save that tree from being cut down
I think that there's no doubt that this is a 'good'
thing and Julia deserves goodhuman points for it. But,
non-compliance with this guideline is quite obviously
not a 'bad' thing.
