I was once cat-sitting for a neighbour's three indoor cats in NYC 
and noticed they had been declawed.  They could not play
with a soft ball properly, or pick up items that interested them.

On return to UK and my own cat, I mentioned it to him, as I had
never come across a cat without claws.  He said it was very
unlikely that a reputable vet in the UK would agree to perform
the procedure.
