I am trying to reach as many compassionate dog lovers as I can without barging in on inappropriate newsgroups, so please
accept my apology if I have done the latter.
I recently learned that there are no laws in Spain protecting defenseless animals from cruel and violent actions against
them. Particularly, no regulation or control over the current practice of hanging their hunting dogs (Galgos) when they
are of no use to them, at the end of the season. What disturbs me the most is their age old tradition of causing the
most suffering to whichever dogs did not perform the best, by hanging them so low that their feet barely touch the
ground. This makes their death slow and agonizing, which amuses the hunters that much more.
Most people cannot even bear to look at the horrifying pictures or read these stories on the internet, due to their
atrocious nature. Just imagine what it must be like for the innocent dogs who are suffering and
cannot speak for themselves. For me, it is something I cannot turn my back on anymore.
Many concerned organizations in Spain are fighting for the rights of these animals to be protected
by law, but these laws must be changed before this can happen. All past efforts have been unsuccessful, due to the
close relation to another popular Spanish sport which is bull fighting. Concerned organizations continue the call for
new legislation to protect the Galgos from unnecessary abuse.

the problems of animal protection. The axis of this event will be the International Conference on
Animal Protection in Spain, to be held on the 7th, 8th and 9th day of November 2002, at the
headquarters of the University of Barcelona.
For information on this conference http://www.altarriba.org/010/sesigue/cipae/cipaeI.htm
Support is needed locally as well as outside of Spain and all over the world. All you need to do is send them an e-mail
and your name will be added to the list of supporters. No money is required, unless you want to attend the conference.
No spam will end up in your mail box. There are very few USA organizations and individuals on the list so far, but it
is growing. The more names they have, the higher the chances of success.

please follow this link http://www.altarriba.org/010/sesigue/cipae/cipaeI.htm
Please take a moment to read about this great effort. You can help end the suffering for these innocent animals.
Thank you,
